Two Chinese Qing Dynasty gilt bronze statues of Heng and Ha, the Guardians of the temple against penetrating demons. Both standing fiercely, with arms raised exposed the claws hand, their hair like flames, wearing many necklace and pendants on the bare chest. One holding a mce, other with gourd. Generals Heng and Ha are frequently depicted as statues guarding Buddhist temples. The legend is that they lived at the time of the foundation of the Zhou dynasty and were given magical powers by Duè Zhenrèn who lived in the Kunlun mountains. General Heng could emit deadly rays from his nose. General Ha had been given the secret of exhaling a lethal gas. The two generals fought each other valiantly and they were rewarded for their prowess by being canonized by Emperor Jiang Ziya. Both underside marked with four flori-form petals of double vajra, and a centralize yin-yang symbol. The underside of both Buddhas shows rectangular cut-out, a precisely fitting bronze comes with the sculptures.
