18/19th C Chinese Nephrite jade is finely carved in high relief with the seated sage and attendant, beneath the shading tree and rock formation. The natural golden russet inclusions on the jade sculpture is skillfully carved out detailing the shadowing rockwork hilltop. The jade shows moist milky appearance in grayish-celadon color with splash of golden russet inclusions. Mountains (shan) are the places closest to the gods and because of their expanse and heights covey the meaning of limitless.
