拍品描述
A BLUE AND WHITE SQUARE-FORM ‘GU’ VASE, QIANLONG PERIOD Of archaistic gu-form, the middle section projecting from three tiers into a central panel decorated with stylized sinuous phoenixes, sectioned off by key-fret borders into layered standing plantain leaves extending towards either end, height 21.3" — 54.2 cm. Provenance: From an Important Toronto Collection Note: This gu-form vase would have originally been a part of a set of five garnitures. The conventional arrangement on the altar consists of two gu vessels on either end, flanking a pair of candlesticks with a censer in the centre. Gu vessels have been prominent ever since the Shang dynasty, later developing the bulge to the midsection and raised phalanges in the late Yuan and early Ming dynasties. This present example is a product of an archaic revival during the Qianlong period. Although most archaic revival porcelain pieces lack reign marks, most were manufactured in imperial kilns with the same attention to detail and quality. Estimate: $25,000—30,000
