A GEORGE III ORMOLU, SILVER AND PASTE-SET VASE TIMEPIECE TABLE CLOCK
THE MOVEMENT BY JOHN RUSSELL, CIRCA 1775
The vase with a gadrooned body supported on a socle of stiff leaves above a collar of ribbon-tied reeds on a stepped fluted column with a laurel wreath collar above a plain base, mounted at the center with a dial within a paste-set bezel, the white enamel dial with Roman hours and gilt hands, the twenty-four hour watch movement signed to the foliate engraved backplate John Russell No.6322 and inscribed Costessey, the other three sides inset with silver plaques, one depicting Ariadne reclining beside a palm tree, the others depicting putti at a forge, the sides mounted with scrolled foliate ornamented handles, the stepped domed and molded cover with pineapple finial and adorned with floral swags, interior with printed and inscribed Ann and Gordon Getty Collection inventory label

Thence by descent to Sir Henry Jerningham, Costessey Hall, Costessey, Norfolk. By whom sold (possibly Cubitt and West, Haslemere, 8-12 December 1913). Acquired from Jeremy, London, by Ann and Gordon Getty in 1994.
Lot Essay Costessey Hall, a Tudor manor house, was considerably aggrandized in the Gothic style by the architect J.C. Buckler from 1826-1836 for Sir George William Jerningham (1771-1851), whose barony was united with that of the Lords Stafford in 1824.
