Seirocrinus Subangularis. Early Jurassic, 201-174 million years 168 x 90 x 4 cm Provenance: Italian private collection Seirocrinus subangularis is a fossil crinoid species from the Early Jurassic. These flower-like animals are distant relatives of sea urchins and starfish. They consisted of an about 60 to 90 centimeters long stem and a crown that reached the length of 20 to 30 centimeters. With the long arms of the finely branched crown, the crinoids filtered out food particles from the moving water on which they fed. Fossil crinoids are found all over the world, yet the most beautiful specimens come from Holzmaden in southern Germany. The crinoids lived in huge colonies that swayed back and forth in the ocean depths. This elegant specimen of the Crinoidea family has a minimalist elegance of frozen motion. One might think, in a moment, these five fossilized crinoids would continue their floating movements, as they did millions of years ago. The presented here example is of the finest quality and shows only minor restaurations. Diese blumenartigen Tiere sind entfernte Verwandte von Seeigeln und Seesternen. Sie bestanden aus einem ca. 60 bis 90 Zentimeter langen Stiel und einer Krone, welche die L?nge von 20 bis 30 Zentimeter erreichte. Es gab aber auch gr?ssere Exemplare, die einige Meter massen. Mit den langen Armen der feinverzweigten Krone filterten die Seelilien Nahrungspartikel aus dem bewegten Wasser aus, von denen sie sich ern?hrten. Die fossilen Seelilien werden überall auf der Welt gefunden, dennoch stammen die sch?nsten Exemplare aus Holzmaden in Süddeutschland. Die Seelilien lebten in riesigen Kolonien, die in der Meerestiefe hin- und herschwankten. Einige Exemplare, wie dieses, hefteten sich an driftende Holzstücke. Dieses elegante Exemplar der Familie Crinoidea besitzt eine minimalistische Eleganz der erstarrten Bewegung. The items can be inspected during the preview. The Purchaser is therefore invited to inspect an item prior to the auction and, possibly with the support of an independent specialist advisor, to form its own opinion of the correspondence between the lot and the catalogue description. For the specifications of the items the print edition of the catalogue in the German language (including any later amendments) shall be exclusively applicable. Koller reserves the right to call in experts or specialists of its choice to give an opinion and to rely upon that opinion. Koller cannot be held liable for the correctness of such opinions. Neither any such expert opinions or reports, nor the descriptions of items provided by Koller or other statements pertaining to an item (including statements pertaining to the value thereof) constitute explicit or implicit warranties.
3.3 Subject to Clause 4 below, no guarantee or warranty whatsoever is given in respect of legal and material defects. The liabilities of the Seller vis-à-vis the Purchaser are limited to the same extent as the liabilities of Koller vis-à-vis the Purchaser.
