Biography: Léon Jean Jacques Baréty (1883-1971). Son of Alexandre Baréty, a doctor and notable politician from Nice, he graduated from the School of Political Science and received a doctorate in law in 1905. He immediately joined the cabinet of the Minister of the Interior and then began a local political career. He was elected General Councillor of the Alpes-Maritimes in the canton of Puget-Théniers in 1910, and the following year he was elected Municipal Councillor of Puget-Théniers, a mandate that he kept until 1944. Deputy head of the cabinet of the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Paul Deschanel, in 1912, he was then mobilized and participated in the First World War. Upon his return to civilian life, he resumed his political activity and was elected deputy under the label of the Democratic Republican Union in 1919. He was an assiduous and active deputy in many fields, but especially as rapport of various budgets (prison services, in 1923, then from 1925 to 1930; trade and industry, from 1925 to 1930; Ministry of Finance, from 1932 to 1935...). He was also general rapport for the 1932, 1935 and 1936 budgets. He was also president of the Morocco-Tunisia parliamentary group and a member of the High Council of the Colonies. In 1930, he gave a speech in Boufarik with Gustave Mercier for the inauguration of a monument celebrating the centenary of colonization in Algeria. In November 1929, he was appointed under-secretary of state for public instruction and technical education in the first Tardieu cabinet, then under-secretary of state for the budget in his second cabinet from March to December 1930. After the war, he gave up politics, accused of collaboration, then cleared, and was content with a brief mandate as a municipal councillor of Puget-Théniers from 1953 to 1956, and devoted himself to the management of companies.
