A BANDED AGATE PENDANT WITH GOLD CAPS, PRE-ANGKOR PERIOD

拍品描述

Cambodia, 6th-8th century. Of tubular shape, the banded agate bead in hues of dark-chocolate interrupted by milky white inclusions, well-polished and with a central drilling. Both ends with gold foil mountings as well as two thin bands in the centre, the gold embellished with minuscule, embossed dots.
Condition: Good condition with some notches, minor losses to the gold foil and weathering commensurate with age.

Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik Istvan Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. Istvan Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe.
