?A Rare iron red decorated 'Immortals' Bowl, Kangxi six character mark in underglaze blue within a double ring and of the period, the rounded exterior finely painted, in tones of iron red heightened with black, with fourteen figures of Immortals, including Dongfang Shuo with his peach branch, Shoulao with his deer, and another who holds a double gourd from which issues a flying crane, incised collector's mark to the undecorated interior.?
This bowl is thought to belong to the Kangxi Birthday group, superb wares specially commissioned to celebrate the 60th birthday of the Kangxi Emperor in 1713.
A similar bowl was sold at Christies New York, lot 1765, 24 March 2011. Another very comparable bowl was sold at Christies Hong Kong, lot 3197, 2nd December 2015.
A bowl of the same group, from the Qing court Collection, is illustrated as catalogue no. 118 in 'The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum :Porcelains in Polychrome and Contrasting Colours', vol. 38, Hong Kong 1999.
This has closely comparable delicately painted iron red Immortals to the exterior, but is without any mark, and has double underglaze blue lines
at the rim and footrim.
