拍品描述
Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyel seated on a lotus pedestal with the typical Bhutanese lobed petals extending halfway around the base, his right hand points to the ground, his left hand resting in his lap holding a book. He is dressed as a monk and wears the Drugpa Kagyü headdress and has the long characteristic distinct beard. Incised inscription in Ch?ke (classical Tibetan) on the reverse. Base sealed with a copper plate. Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyel (1594-1651) was the founder of the Bhutanese state, and an important grand lama of the Drugpa Kagyu school in Bhutan, which he established as one of the most important schools of Tibetan Buddhism. In his person, he combined both spiritual and secular rule and shaped the structures of Bhutan that are still in use today during the 35 years of his rule, even though at his request, after his death, the reign was divided into a spiritual and a secular ruler.
