A good Russian silver and niello cigarette case, maker's mark AY (Cyriilic), St. Petersburg, last quarter of 19th Century, rounded rectangular with zig-zag borders, both sides with geometric scrollwork on stippled ground, centred by a circular reserve between two curved bands of Greek key pattern, inscribed "L.B. 1 Janvier, 1877", reverse centred by Cyrillic word "NAPAMYAT", pale gilding to interior, 10.4 cm. long. wt. 106 gm.

Tiny ding in bottom right corner of reverse, another on top left corner of reverse, niello very crisp, a couple of tiny pinprick dings to bottom edge, lacks elasticatedinterior straps to secure cigarettes in place.
