The covered box in shape of overlapping Lozenges or rhombuses in the pattern known as fangshengwen. The cover decorated with colorful cloisonne design depicted group of animals, water buffalo, oxen and deer, pulling three carts.

LOT NOTES A lozenge (fang Sheng) is one of the Eight Treasures and is considered a lucky object. It has a diamond shape and two lozenges are frequently interlocked to represent the form of an ancient musical instrument. It is said that this object was also used as a head ornament in ancient times and symbolizes victory. Taoist (Daoist) legend has it that the Queen Mother of the West (xiwangmu) wore such an object to exorcise evil spirits. Two diamond-shaped lozenges interlocked together can represent two hearts joined together and acting with one mind. Lozenge charms may be seen at Eight Treasures, Pendant Charms, and Coin Inscriptions.
