拍品描述: Pair of gilt bronze enameled cloisonne Chinese WeiQi game board and agate beads in pair of covered jars. The WeiQi board crafted with deep-red enamel filled the gilt bronze cloisonne works in square shaped flat panel. With group of carved pink and white agate beads. The pair of cloisonne jars are stoutly repoussed in a tapered globular gilt bronze body, with flat base and top. Banded rim and foot. The bulbous exterior decorated in gilt cloisonne enamel works of stylized pomegranate blooms and smaller colorful flower interspersed by scrolling foliate between bands of ruyi pattern ribbons. All set upon deep-blue enamel ground. The jar characterized by its elaborate pierced dome gilt bronze lids in rococo camellia blooms.

Mark on gilt base, carved a four script -KaiShu- characters reign mark, QianLong Reign Period.

Dimension: 20" H x 20" W Square (Jars): 3-1/2" H x 4-1/4" Diam. (each)
LOT NOTES:
: The game of WeiQi is reputed to be 4,000 years old. There are mentions of a similar game called yì ? made by Confucius and Mencius but it is not certain it is the same game.
The name ? ‘Go’ comes from its name in Japan. Like many Japanese traditions it made its way from China during the Tang dynasty when Chinese influence was at its peak. Because it made its way to the West via Japan it is the Japanese form of the game that is most widely played. The game can be literally translated as ‘encirclement game’ was long considered an appropriate study for scholars as it taught many kinds of strategy.
