拍品描述: Chinese porcelain plaque, flat rectangular shape, underglazed hand painted depicting a portrait of Zhong Kui, with fierce seeing eyes beneath the long and thick black eyebrow and spreading beard, standing arrogantly wearing cobalt-blue traditional robes. Themed calligraphy on upper right with artist signature seal on lower left. Wooden framed with brass loop mounting.
Zhong Kui is a figure of Chinese mythology. Traditionally regarded as a vanquisher of ghosts and evil beings, and reputedly able to command 80,000 demons, his image is often painted on household gates as a guardian spirit, as well as in places of business where high-value goods are involved.
