Sturdily potted Chinese porcelain covered trinket box, of low cylindrical vessel, with steep vertical sides. The top decorated with centralized peony bloom, interspersed with further colorful floral motif. The sides with five red Fu bats, all against pale-turquoise green underglazed ground. Adorned with gilt over glazed ring bands.
Mark on base, a four blue script -KaiShu- characters reign mark, enclosed within double square frame borders, YongZheng Reign Period.
Dimension: 2" H x 4" Diam.The character for a small box sounds the same as ? hé which can mean ‘peace; harmony’ and so a box portrayed in a picture symbolizes peaceful wishes. This wish is amplified by the presence of lotus leaves and a scepter. Hé-hé èr Xian ???? - the Heavenly twins of ‘Harmony and Union’ are shown as two boys one carrying a box (or sometimes a bowl) and the other a lotus.
