拍品描述
1644-1911). This charming and lively set of 4 ink paintings basically refers to the Four Seasons. The artist and various calligraphers have, additionally, included calligraphy which appear to consist of poems and with double meanings.
Scroll #1 "A single leaning branch of a plum blossom is best." In the spring of 1903, the Guimao year of the Guanxu reign, painted by Xiuxue, at the Daiyue Shanfang Room.
Scroll #2 "The entire world says that under the flower (the rat) is powerful; how can I resist this convention? I did not paint to meet the expectation of an owner, and because I did not use colors I prefer quick and natural strokes. In the early spring of 1903 (Guimao), I inscribed this picture of a peony, in the Sisheng Zi Zhai Room."
Scroll #3 "Autumn breezes gently waft, and green is all over the fields. ‘The gentleman of flowers’ is a name for the lotus. Inscribed by Yizhuang (name), Woodman of Mt. Lotus (Hao)"
Scroll #4 "(Tao) Yuanming is not the only one who favors chrysanthemums, for by the Chongyang (Autumn) festival, the flower is everywhere. Inscribed by Yaxian"
