AN IMPOSING IVORY CARVING OF SHOULAO
China, Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) to Republic period (1912-1949). The large standing immortal is finely carved with a long beard, boasting a cheerful expression, and a high forehead. He is wearing long robes finely carved with dragons and phoenixes amid dense swirling clouds and holds a tall staff with a dragon and double gourd finial in one hand and a branch of peaches in the other. The base incised ‘Da Ming’.

Condition: Very good condition with minor wear and natural age cracks. Fine honey-golden patina.
Provenance: British private collection, according to the current owner acquired in the French aution market. With a copy of an expert certificate signed by Bernard Gomez dating the piece to the 19th century.
