the pebble well-hollowed, the top ridged in fi ve rounded ribs, enframed beneath by shaped panels comprised of chilong carved in low relief, the front with a cusped reserve enclosing a frontal dragon in the central panel fi anked by a pair to either side and smaller ones coiled along the top outer ridge, the reverse with a larger and small chilong within a single panel, a small aperture to either side for a pin to secure the fi tting to the hair, the stone with pale gray inclusions towards the base Length 3 in., 7.8 cm There is a nearly identical example to the present jade in the British Museum illustrated in Jessica Rawson, Chinese Jade from the Neolithic to the Qing, British Museum, London, 1995, cat. no. 25:14
