An 18th./19th.century carved, painted and gilt wooden figure of a seated Chinaman holding a scroll and sitting on a large tiered stand, the hexagonal base with recessed diaper panels rising through a column supported level, then a branching layer, all with recessed panels, to an upper terrace with towers and supporting the lotus platform with beaded oval border, the whole carved, painted and gilt. Ht. of figure 17cm., stand 23cm. CR. Figure paint rubbed commensurate with age giving excellent patina on front, chipped on rear, feet missing , Stand paint chipped, mainly around the base. One tower missing, rear section of flat base missing, signs of a missing back to the stand above the platform
