拍品描述
A watercolor and charcoal on paper by Hugh Mesibov from 1942. Hubert Bernard 'Hugh' Mesibov was an American artist (b. 1916, d. 2016). The work depicts an industrial scene with muted tones of the Walnut Hill neighborhood in Philadelphia. The composition features two figures playing with a toy sailboat under a bridge. The building in the background shows a billboard that says Walnut Hill. Work is signed in the lower right "Mesibov,1942." This work has never been exhibited or offered for sale. Dimensions are: framed the work measures, 21 inches tall X 23 1/2 inches wide, 53.34 cm X 59.69 cm. All measurements are approximate. Condition: No noted damage, not inspected outside of the frame. Frame in poor condition. Provenance: Acquired by the consignor's father, Ralph Novak, from the artist who was a family friend. Offered at auction on behalf of the Ashby Ponds Benevolent fund. Hugh Mesibov was a 20th century American artist whose work displays key elements of the New York experience including Surrealist, Abstract Expressionist and figurative works across multiple mediums. A recipient of national and international acclaim, Mesibov is included in Americaa€?s great collection of contemporary art including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Barnes foundation, and the Whitney Museum of Art.
