A JAPANESE KORANSHA BOWL AND AN ARITA CHARGER MEIJI PERIOD (1868-1912), 1880-1900 The Fukagawa bowl with deeply lobed rim and moulded form, decorated with the Chinese immortal Qingao riding a carp to the interior, the lobes decorated with brocade patterns in underglaze blue, enamels and gilding, and a Koransha mark to base. Together with a charger decorated with bijins in Edo style. The Fukagawa bowl 26.5cm diameter. The charger 33cm diameter PROVENANCE: The Genine Wallinga Collection. Genine Wallinga is the current president of the Ceramics & Glass Circle of Australia, and has been collecting European 18th Century ceramics and Japanese Ko-Imari ceramics from Arita of the 17th and 18th centuries for the last 20 years. Her connoisseurship has led her to focus on early Edo Period Kakiemon porcelain, one of the great technological and artistic achievements in Japanese ceramic history, of which a number are offered in this collection.
condition:Condition:Koransha dish with a small restored chip and associated hairline to the rim and light wear to the gilding. The charger with a small star crack.
