An impressive 19-inch high covered piece with quality bronze ormolu mounts and elaborate gold decoration on deep cobalt ground. The high dome cover decorated in elaborate gold rococo swirls surrounding the hand painted oval of 18th century courting couple in a woodland scene artist signed G. Poitevin, topped by an acanthus bud finial and further decorated by a hand painted pastoral river scene and polychrome floral sprays inside. The cover rests on a wide openwork ormolu frame of undulating intertwined laurel leaf and berries mounted to two high squarish handles draped with laurel festoon garland, the cobalt glaze body and pedestal decorated with raised gold enamel rococo swirls, the interior of the bowl decorated with polychrome floral sprays.

Very good condition, there are no chips, cracks, repairs or areas of restoration. The pastoral scene on the cover has a 1-inch rubbed portion with corresponding missing paint and one handle has come loose at it's solder joints leaving it to swivel at the rim. No other damage, rubs, gold wear or issue of any type.
