Chinese pale-celadon Nephrite jade carved unto S-shape curved wand, with ruyi shaped head. The head decorated in relief with centralized longevity Shou character interspersed with four symbols of Eight Buddhist emblems. Further to the wand with another three symbols enclosed within a shaped cartouche, and to the end with dharma chakra wheel symbol. The jade scepters displayed upon imperial-yellow silk covered hard cushion stand in geometrical pattern motif. Adorned with double carmine-red tassel. The jade shows moist milky appearance with splash of grayish tone natural inclusions.
The ruyi, considered one of the Eight Treasures, was a scepter which represented power and authority. The ruyi was originally a short sword with a sword-guard used for self-defense or gesturing. There is some speculation that it may have evolved from a back scratcher. The head of the ruyi is similar to that of the LingZhi or "fungus of immortality" and the lotus. The name "ruyi" is usually translated as "as you wish" or "in accordance with your desires". The ruyi now symbolizes good wishes and prosperity. The ruyi may be seen on charms at Daoist Charms, Bagua Charms, Auspicious Inscriptions, and Pendant Charms.
