JADE SCLUPTURE OF QILING & BOOK ON STAND

拍品描述: Chinese grayish-celadon Nephrite jade in model of a mythical beast Qilin, generally have Chinese dragon-like features. Eyes with thick eyelashes, manes that flow slightly upward and beards beneath pair of antlers. The body is scaled and shaped like an ox. The body slightly faced west, with head facing rear hip, resting in relax position on its four legs, its tail freely laid next to left hip. Relief of stylized ruyi shaped clouds carved on the hump, with a rectangular book on top. Displayed exquisitely upon a carved hardwood stand. Qilin are thought to be a symbol of luck, good omens, protection, prosperity, success, and longevity by the Chinese. Qilin are also a symbol of fertility, and often depicted in decorations as bringing a baby to a family. The Nephrite jade shows pale-grayish-celadon with hints of russet inclusions and moist milky appearance.
