By 1924 he had achieved a leading position in the world of Kyoto maki-e and joined five other Kyoto lacquerers to form a research group named Rokushuen (Garden of Six Tastes), with the aim of exchanging views and information and improving the quality of Japanese lacquer. In 1923 he exhibited a writing box with a design of sparrows and rape flowers at the second Kyoto Lacquerware Competition Exhibition and in 1933 he carried out the maki-e decoration for a set of lacquer furniture in the founder's hall of a religious organization. He seems to have worked mainly on lacquers for private clients.
