Property from the Crawford Collection KUBO SHUNMAN (1757-1820) Edo period (1615-1868), 1810sA complete set of seven surimono shikishiban prints; the first with votive paintings of peonies, pheasant and Futami Bay, poems by Hisakataya and Gachoan Michitane; the second with votive paintings of a carp, an actor as a shirabyoshi dancer in the kabuki play Musume dojoji (The Young Woman at Dojo Temple), a kabuki actor in the role of Soga no Goro, poems by Shozanro Shigemi, and Hisakataya; the third entitled Tamura no oni taiji no ema (Votive Paintings of Tamura Attacking the Demons), poems by Shiratsuyutei Tamaru, Sakuranikutei Edaori, and Sen no Eido; the forth with votive paintings of camellias, and a court lady, and monk at Kiyomizu-dera (Kiyomizu Temple), with poems; the fifth with votive paintings of the Taira warrior Akushichibyoe Nagekiyo and an asazuma dancer, a poem by Hisakataya; the sixth with votive paintings of peacock, warrior with gun, and pine and sun, with poems; the last with votive paintings of the Six Immortal Poets, flying geese and a pagoda made of coins, poems by Sawanoya Katsumi, Mitsu no Shirabe, and Hisakataya; each from the series Hisakataya shichiban no uchi (Seven Pictures for the Hisakataya Club), signed Shunman (7) 8 1/8 x 7 1/4in (20.7 x 18.5cm) each approximately 注脚 Published:The first, second, fifth and last only, Roger Keyes, The Art of Surimono, London, Sotheby Publications, 1985, cat. nos. 319-322
