A Blue Ground Embroidered Silk Gauze Summer Dragon Robe, Jifu 19TH CENTURY the finely woven blue gauze ground interwoven with a soft palette supporting dragons worked in coils of tightly couched metallic gilt-wrapped pale silk threads. The nine front facing and confronting dragons spread between the front, back and interior flab, each in control of a polychrome flaming pearl, all finely worked with the floss detailed the wild fangs, pointed claws, and sinuous spines each interspersed with beribboned auspicious symbols, bajixiang amidst bats and ruyi-headed scrolling tufts of clouds, the cuffs and hem with a lishuistripe uplifting a terrestrial diagram complete with turbulent waves crashing with frothy ruyi-head foam about auspicious symbols, the collar band and horseshoe cuffs, worked with similar decoration to a chestnut brown ground, and finished with gilt buttons on silk ties. Length from collar to hem 53 x width across chest 24 1/2 in., 134.6 x 62.3 cm. condition:In overall very good condition, with only minor color loss, and some loose threads at the collar, cuffs, and sleeves, alongside some creasing.
