拍品描述
Of bellied form with shaped rim, raised upon three pad feet with husk shell junction. An acanthus capped double C scroll fly over handle. Engraved to the side with large contemporaneous initials RMP in florally flourished script. Fully marked underneath. Length – 13.7 cm / 5.5 inches Weight – 157 grams / 5.05 ozt James Water was apprenticed to James Stone on the 7th Jan 1730, free 24th March 1737. He achieved livery March 1758 and a mark was registered in the smallworkers register on 24th May 1769 in Foster Lane. He like his master James Stone is a known salt maker and would have had his earlier marks registered in the now lost 1739-58 smallworkers register. This mark is found upon many salts, as well pepper pots, punch ladles and cream boats, the items are usually of middling quality, in particular many of the salt are not comparable to those of David Hennell, Waters comparative superior whose mastership line also descends from the Roode family.
