Imari style decoration, with central arms of a Bengal tiger and an elephant supporting a shield of two fish and possibly a dagger, surrounded by eight radiating panels alternating chrysanthemums and large flower heads, purported to be from a service made for Bahadur Shah II, the Last Mughal Emperor of India, largest diameter 7.7" — 19.5 cm. Provenance: Important Private Canadian Collection of Armorial Porcelain (lots 104-117) Literature: A plate from this service is illustrated in Howard and Ayer’s China for the West, II, page 475, no. 487 Note: A pair of plates with identical design, but shield and scroll reading ‘CJW’ and ‘Mallacca’ was sold at Christie’s New York, January 26, 2015, lot 94. A dish with identical arms and design is in the Winterthur Museum Collection, Delaware, acc. no. 2014.0016.123
