The seventh of the twenty-four paragons of filial piety, Tanzi lived during the Zhou Dynasty. He was extremely filial. His aged parents suffered an eye malady that required deer's milk as a cure. Tanzi camouflaged himself in a deer's skin, went into the mountains, and mingled with a deer herd in order to obtain the milk for his parents. Some hunters saw him, and mistaking him for a deer, were about to shoot when he revealed himself just in time.
