Netsuke, staghorn. Japan, 19th cent.
A particularly fine piece from the Asakusa School of work originating in Edo-Tokyo. Round manjugata (form), precisely naturalistic craftmanship! On the front within a circular leaf with highly curved edge is a seed pod and a little mokugyo, a temple gong with a dragon. On the back, laced stems, cord channel. Very good patina and condition.
