Netsuke, ivory. Japan, 19th cent.
An especially fine netsuke in anatomically spirited craftmanship! The boy, naked except for an apron, has a defined bald head and smiles in amusement. He is crawling on the ground and holds a rattle with a little covering shaped like a chrysanthemum. The small himotoshi are located in the boys′s belly. Finest decorative pattern on the apron, which is laced on the back. Beautiful polish and patina!
