拍品描述: Gold Bronze. Indien, Orissa, 17th to 18th century Two heavy well-rounded bronze figures with a beautiful old patina and polish. Both depictions are presented on round, stepped pedestals. Krishna, the most popular incarnation of the high god Vishnu, is somewhat larger and standing entirely naked in a dancing pose. This stance and position of the hands is known for and characteristic of the venugopala theme – the “flute-playing shepherd”. The flute is missing and two fingers on one hand are raised in the style of the demon-dispelling gesture. The body-form is full with an emphasis on lustfulness. The hair is somewhat tilted to the front and ends in a lotus bud. The body-form of the feminine figure bears little difference to Krishna’s, yet stands straight with her legs, is swaying her hip to the side and also has round breasts. The hands are noticeably large and the raised hand holds a lotus bud. The hair is tied into a knot which stands to the side. Krishna as a shepherd admired Radha. The figure at hand could perhaps be Sita, but in the form of Satyabhama within the cultic context of Krishna. Satyabhama is an incarnation of Vishnu’s consort Sri. Both bronzes are in very good condition. HEIGHTS 34 AND 28,6 CM From an old German collection, afterwards collection Sohel Ch., New Delhi – Vienna A noteworthy share of the antiques offered here – around 130 lots – originate from the Collection Sohel Ch., a successful business man from Delhi who spent many years in Vienna. The part of his collection, which we here offer, was mainly acquired in the art trade of Vienna. The chief reason for his collecting activity, which he perpetuated with considerable specialized knowledge, sense for quality and great committment, was to establish a private Asian museum in his native city of New Delhi.
