拍品描述: Ivory. India, late Mughal Empire, 19th century Elaborate and magnificent, truly unusual rendition in terms of style! The noble lady is shown standing on an oval base, decorated all around with a lotus border and further decorated with a wave pattern in the section below, the lady is carved with a tall and slender silhouette leaving the original curve from the ivory tooth, she is clad with a long skirt, richly bejeweled, slim waist and perfectly shaped breasts, the head is delicate and of elongated form, bearing large arched eyes, the nose decorated with a ring, ears bejeweled, one jewel hanging on the forehead - a truly noble lady, one of her hands is holding a headscarf while the other is grasping two lotus buds and hanging down loose, light floral decoration on the robe, mounted on a well suited wooden base. This depiction conveys a sense of unrepeatable decadence like it is for example known from Vienna around 1900. The last Mughal emperor of India was dismissed by the British in 1858, what put an end to the Mughal Empire. The part of his collection, which we here offer, was mainly acquired in the art trade of Vienna. The chief reason for his collecting activity, which he perpetuated with considerable specialized knowledge, sense for quality and great committment, was to establish a private Asian museum in his native city of New Delhi.
