拍品描述: Bronze. Southern India, ca. 10h to 12th century This fine early bronze statue presents a Devi standing in tribhanga on a stepped quadratic base with lotus decorations. Especially the tribhanga pose, which emphasizes the swing of the hip, has come through strikingly well on this statue. The goddess wears a dukula silk robe which accentuates her erotic posture, jewelry, and has a bare upper body. One hand is raised and could have once held an attribute, perhaps a lotus flower, which would mean she is Lakshmi, Vishnu’s consort. She wear a tall crown with a lotus flower on the back. Strong patina due to age and is presumed to have been unearthed as indicated by the corresponding remnants in the base. HEIGHT 14, 6 CM From a German collection, afterwards collection Sohel Ch., New Delhi – Vienna A noteworthy share of the antiques offered here – around 130 lots – originate from the Collection Sohel Ch., a successful business man from Delhi who spent many years in Vienna. The part of his collection, which we here offer, was mainly acquired in the art trade of Vienna. The chief reason for his collecting activity, which he perpetuated with considerable specialized knowledge, sense for quality and great committment, was to establish a private Asian museum in his native city of New Delhi.
