Ivory. China, Qing, late 18th to 19th cent.
Crafted on one piece of curved ivory tooth, a depiction of a royal lady, a fairy or one of the many manifestations of Guanyin. Definitive is that she holds a pearl between the fingers of her raised hand, the "wish fulfilling pearl". Both hands show "demon protection", one hand holds a pearl necklace. Floor-length robe, fine, sophisticated facial expression, pearls on the ears and in her highly-stacked hair. Age patina, very good condition.
