拍品描述: Bronze and repousse. Tibet/Nepal, 19th cent. A bronze sculpture of Padmasambhava (literally: “born in the sign of lotus”), who lived in the 8th century approximately. Here typically shown seated on a broad lotus base, wearing a cap topped with a blade as a sign of a Nyingmamit superior, one hand holding a skull, the other hand raised and holding vajra, the fingers shown in the karana mudra (repulse of demons), with spirited facial expression, clad in a pleated robe. The figure is surrounded by a flaming nimbus done in the repoussé technique (the nimbus with short crack). With remnants of red colour, the underside of base bearing an unusually large vishvavajra. HEIGHT 22,3 CM From a German private collection, afterwards collection Sohel Ch., New-Delhi - Vienna 凸紋青銅造蓮花生尊坐像。尼泊爾／西藏，19世紀。高22.3厘米。 A noteworthy share of the antiques offered here – around 130 lots – originate from the Collection Sohel Ch., a successful business man from Delhi who spent many years in Vienna. The part of his collection, which we here offer, was mainly acquired in the art trade of Vienna. The chief reason for his collecting activity, which he perpetuated with considerable specialized knowledge, sense for quality and great committment, was to establish a private Asian museum in his native city of New Delhi.
