Bronze. Tibet, approx. 13th cent.
A special, rare, early bronze, although small indeed massive and finely crafted in the details! The goddess Green Tara sits in lalitasana on a lotus throne with one leg on a separate, small lotus pedestal. One hand presents the "wish fulfilling" gesture varadamudra, the other holding the stem of a lotus, whose blossom is missing. Very feminine body created with elegant verve, also fine are the folds of her silk garments and necklaces. Very subtile design of the facial features, hair bun on the head, on the front is a very little figurine of a Buddha. Many remains of former gilding, patina and age characteristics.
