Shang Dynasty or later The blade with multiple softly-polished horizontal ribbed channels, resembling a silkworm, below a horizontal wider chape-like band and terminating in a stylized head (handle) with simplified eyes, the pendant of slender flattened oval cross-section, pierced at one end for suspension. 3 3/8in (8.5cm) long

商或更晚 黃玉雕劍形珮It is quite conceivable that this carving is indeed meant to evoke a stylized representation of a silkworm. Their images in jade certainly existed by the late Shang dynasty as attested to by an example excavated at Ta Ssu K'ung 大司空衬 village in Anyang, see Ma Te-Chih et al., in Kaogu, 1955, No. 9, pl. 17:7.
