About the artist: Ukrainian painter and graphic artist. People's Artist of Ukraine. Outstanding artist of Transcarpathia.
Fedor Fedorovich Manailo was born on October 19, 1910 in the village of Ivanovtsy near Mukachevo in Transcarpathia in the family of a rural teacher.
From 1928 to 1934 he studied at the Higher Art and Industrial School in Prague with Brunner, Hofbauer, Kratohvil.
In 1933, his works were shown at the exhibition of Transcarpathian artists in Prague.
From 1936 he worked as a teacher in the village of Ivanovtsy, and from 1937 to 1945 he taught decorative art at the Uzhgorod Craft School, from 1947 he worked as the main artist of the Transcarpathian Regional House of Folk Art.
In 1946, F.F. Manailo was admitted to the Union of Artists of Ukraine, in 1948 - became chairman of its Transcarpathian organization.
Member of regional, republican, all-Union and foreign art exhibitions.
He worked in the field of easel and monumental painting, the author of landscapes, still lifes and plot compositions.
Turning to the book graphics, he illustrated the story of Ivan Franko "Zakhar Berkut", the works of Mark Cheremshina and Olga Kobylyanskaya, a number of collections of folklore.
In the second half of the 1950s, the creative union of Fedor Manailo with Anton Kashshai was born. Artists together illustrate the collection “Folk Ballads of Transcarpathia”.
Fedor Fedorovich was directly involved in the creation of the Uzhgorod College of Applied Arts, was one of its first teachers.
In 1972, Manailo F.F. awarded the title Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR.
Since 1976 - People's Artist of Ukraine.
Personal exhibitions of the artist were held in 1961, 1979, 1980, 1985, 2000 in Uzhgorod.
He died on January 15, 1978.
On February 9, 1981, the Memorial House-Museum of F.F. Manailo was opened in Uzhgorod.
The artist’s works are presented in numerous museum and private collections in Ukraine and abroad.
