About the artist: Artist Sergey Basov was born in Yoshkar-Ola in 1964. And he graduated from the Kazan Aviation Institute. He painted since childhood, but as often happens in his youth, the soul was torn to pieces. He wanted to be a pilot and ... draw, create, inhale the smell of oil paint.
When the medical board determined that he was “unfit” as a pilot, he decided to become an aviation engineer. Honestly unlearned and worked out the required three years in production. All these years, in his spare time from work, he was engaged in painting.
Then he left the profession of engineer and decided to devote himself to art, submitted documents to the Cheboksary “hudgraf” (so that there was an official document). But, the selection committee, recognizing the undoubted talent of the applicant, refused to accept: "We accept only graduates of art schools."
It just so happened that Sergey Basov is a self-taught artist. That is, to be honest: an undoubted natural talent or, as they used to say in the old days, a “nugget”.
From 1991 to 1997, Sergey Basov exhibited his works in Kazan (Moscow galleries did not want to collaborate with the artist without an education and a glorious name). But, slowly, drop by drop, Moscow also obeyed. In 1998, the artist's paintings appeared in international salons of the capital. And very soon orders appeared from foreign lovers and connoisseurs of painting.
The artist Sergey Basov paints real classic Russian landscapes in accordance with the traditions that were laid down in the nineteenth century. Only, perhaps, more sun and quiet joy that arises from the awareness and understanding of the beauty and grandeur of nature.
