A similar model of hall stand chair is illustrated in the Pictorial Dictionary of British 19th Century Furniture Design, page 355, with an illustration taken from W. Smee & Sons, dated 1850. The model in this catalogue differing form the Smee design with the additional tier of supports and no allowance for the storage of canes.
