SALVADOR SáNCHEZ BARBUDO (1857-1917). "LADY ON A BOAT".
Oil on canvas.
Signed and located in Rome.
The subject matter, unusual in the production of a Spanish painter, could recall that of various literary, historical or legendary characters, in particular that of the Lady of Shalott, made popular by the Victorian poet Alfred Tennyson, which, in turn, was based on a 13th century Italian novel about "Donna di Scalotta". This iconography was particularly successful among artists before Raphael.
We thank Paloma de los Santos Guerrero for her collaboration, which was essential in cataloguing this work.
