Description Japanese Woodblock Print, Foreign Merchant Ships Entering Nagasaki Bay Flying the Flags of Various Nations, Edo Period, circa 1858
inscription transliteration Shisen nyushin no zu - Four Ships Entering the Bay, mounted not framed.
Condition:
Water stained, and discoloured paper, some wear and restoration to top right hand & left had paper and margins, creasing.
Note:
The print may have been issued shortly after 1858, when Japan signed trade agreements with the US, Great Britain, France, the Netherlands and Russia, and provided for the construction of Yokohama harbor.
