in gilt, one dish with an armour-clad samurai walking amongst large chrysanthemum blooms towards a bird of prey before him, inscribed Kyoto Kuma gai zo to the front; the other with five figures rushing away as their clothes and umbrellas are blown away by a sudden gust of wind, the composition reminiscent of the eponymous woodblock print by Hokusai, signed to the back, 27.7cm and 27cm respectively. (2) Provenance: from a deceased estate, Hampshire.
