拍品描述: China, Ming Dynasty, large bronze sculpture - high 36 cm (14,17 inches), this sculpture dates from the middle period of the Ming Dynasty, circa 15th century, fire-gilted bronze, partly polychrome in color, the sculpture is iconographically conventional stylization of the historical Buddha Shakyamuni (Siddhartha Gautama), dressed in a monk's robe, in a convention common since the reign of Emperor Yongle (1402 - 1424) in the mudra bhumisparsha (mudra touching the ground, in which the historical buddha Siddhartha Gautama took the earth as a witness to his enlightenment under the bodhi tree), the sculpture is in its original unpurified state, overall dimensions of the sculpture: 36,5 x 20,5 x 15 cm, weight 4,3 kg. This sculpture is remarkable, among other things, for its larger dimensions, the rare form of a smooth base of oval cross-section, the well-preserved gilding and of the remnants of polychromy. Provenance: Originally from the collection of journalist and politician Vaclav Jaroslav Klofac (1868 - 1942), who was the first Czechoslovak Minister of National Defense after the establishment of the republic and a long-time senator of the National Assembly of the Czechoslovak Republic. This sculpture became part of his impressive collection of Asian antiques in 1904.
