拍品描述
Parasol with Chinese export silver handle decorated in the form of a dragon. Provenance/information provided by the Estate/ Vendor: Rare complete example (Adrien von Ferscht in Litt, 2016) with patterned silk canopy in muted shades of grey. Total length 1,010mm. Handle (172mm) with ball apex pierced by a large ring and the Chinese characters signifying happiness and long life. Handle shaft features an exquisitely beaten and chased representation of an imperial dragon (4 clawed) coiling around the shaft. The apex is lightly engraved "E Scott" for the original owner. Elizabeth Scott of St Catherine's, Ontario, Canada. The retailer's mark "WH90" is for Wang Hing Co of Shanghai, Canton (Guangzhou) and Hong Kong. 90 indicates the silver purity. The unknown artisan silversmith's chop mark is also present. Late C19th to early C20th (fashion plates show this type of parasol in use around 1899-1901) CONDITION: SOME WEAR, small split in canopy and wear to the handle
