Description Central Africa, Cameroon, Mambila peoples, ca. first half of the 20th century CE. A large forged-iron currency piece in the shape of a round-edged hoe with a flat body, one projecting shoulder fin, and a slender tang. Currency pieces like this example are used in exchange for goods and services, but they are also an important component of the ceremonial marriage dowry payment.
