拍品描述
Description Pre-Columbian, Peru, Chancay, ca. 1000 CE. A beautiful, lace-like woven textile comprised of cotton threads of creamy beige and striking white hues - woven and knotted (somewhat akin to tatting) with a central section that features repeated San Pedro cactus cross section motifs flanked by two vertical rows of square motifs. The branches of the San Pedro cactus contain a hallucinogenic substance that was used for traditional medicine and rituals. The textiles of Peru demonstrate immense artistic and technical developments achieved by the Andean civilizations. This elegant example is stitched to a beige museum-quality fabric which is attached to wooden stretcher bars to make it ideal for display. Size: 16.75" W x 18" H (42.5 cm x 45.7 cm) Size: 19" W x 20.125" H (48.3 cm x 51.1 cm) Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection; ex-private Hans Juergen Westermann collection, Germany, collected from 1950s to 1960s All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
