拍品描述: Description Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Moche 1, ca. 100 BCE to 100 CE. A fine terracotta fertility birthing dish depicting a nude female in relief, holding her arms towards heaven in the adoration position, praying to God. Note that her legs are spread wide open and her womb is swollen suggesting that she is ready to give birth. In addition, the female figure is hollow, so that water can flow through her genitalia. Traditionally, shaman would give this sacred water to a female who was like to become pregnant. A wonderful example, finely painted in red and cream hues. Custom stand.
