Description East Asia, Japan, Edo Period, ca. 1603 to 1868 CE. A well preserved steel kabutowari, also known as a hachiwari, a weapon used by the samurai class and known was the "helmet breaker" or "skull breaker". It features a short handle with an opening through its upper part for suspension and a long curved blade with a hook near its upper portion.
